Hello Ginger.
Telfords Warehouse, Chester. 22nd March 2012.
The first gig as the fantastic five. An incredibly awesome night!
Great sets from Babybrave last night in fact great sets all round. Great to see youngsters play Skid Row songs that are probably their age. Reminded me of the soundtrack to my youth, jumping through bedroom windows and the like for mocking this music and the like (Youth Gone Wild indeed) but hey if it wasn’t good then it’s definatley not good now. Futhermore, you could probably get about 500 quid playing this in the pub up the road.
DRKMTR was indeed a bold venure; when someone tells you they are going to explore the theories of Dark Matter via the mediums of guitar, poetry and TV sets you are going to instinctively approach this with a degree of caution. However, fear not as this was executed very successfully. Great slabs of guitar and mountains of TVs (in other Hightown 80s related mispent youth comparrsions, the TVs reminded of the shop on the corner that was full of TVs piled on top of each other) worked as a great distraction from the poetry itself and allowed your focus to drift off and the words enter your brain subconsiously. Either that or I have a really short attention span.
Baby Brave were fantastic as ever. The line up seems to grow and shrink simutaniously like the changing of the seasons. Rich in melody, part Go Gos, part playschool there’s a definate uniqueness to their music. Unique by the way seems to be my word of the week and i wonder what it’s role is in describing music; it’s a great way of describing indiffernce neither good nor bad but unique. It’s the ultimate cop out but in this context, just for clarification it menas orginal in a good way.
The taxi drive home lacked the commedy and chaos of the post Gallops ride in January but hey what wouldn’t. A modus transportation for DRKMTR for sure. But most importantly I learn’t two things; when travelling at light speed, ships do not move in a straight line. Light also does not travel in a straight line and mixing champange, wine, cider and lager gives you a fuck off headace.
Sometimes I feel I’m going round in circles, sometimes I feel I’ve found the secret to time travel and everything is moning around me and I’m just constant. Sometimes I even feel that their is no end to the universe moverover its just one big circle. Anyway can’t say it matters…it doesn’t really matter!
Bren, this review is classic. Laura says nothing in nature travels in straight lines… I asked for an example, and she said like lightning, or rivers, or veins. Soooooo……
It’s the little things!…This morning, we woke up to find a pot of Chamomile and Fennel tea being prepared by our Teasmade.
